3D Headtube - An Argon 18 Exclusive
The 3D Headtube allows for three head tube heights for every frame size. For users, this system offers a number of real advantages:
1. A perfect position tailored to each individual’s physical proportions and riding preferences.

3. A more upright position need no longer compromise the steering accuracy and efficiency inherent in a true racing frame. These qualities remain intact.

Our frameset development philosophy: The Horizontal Dual System

The tubes that make up a bicycle frame each have a distinct, specific function. To define the various functions for each area, our thinking divides the frame along a diagonal reference line that runs from the top of the head tube to the rear wheel dropouts.

All the lower frame tubes-the downtube, chainstays and bottom bracket must above all transmit all of the rider’s energy to the rear wheel, with as little loss as possible for maximum efficiency. These elements must therefore be laterally very rigid.

The tubes in the upper part of the frame serve a very different purpose: they must be vertically compliant so as to filter out excessive vibration coming up from the road surface.

For an optimal result, a number of factors enter the picture:
* The material used: each grade of carbon fiber exhibits specific properties, as do the different aluminum alloys.
* In the case of carbon, composite design is important: number of plies, fiber orientation.
* Tube size and shape: all else being equal, a larger-section tube offers greater rigidity.

5650 HM Carbon Fiber
5650 HM was specially formulated for molding a one-piece frame and fork, to maximize the advantages inherent in this type of fabrication, aiming, as always with an Argon 18 design, for the Holy Grail of bike design: the optimal mix of rigidity and compliance in the right places for minimum weight and maximum comfort, efficiency…and riding satisfaction.

These latest improvements are a continuation of the ongoing refinement process we began with the 2010 model Krypton and this new version has been given an extra measure of stiffness without any weight penalty, improving the frameset’s rigidity to weight ratio:

Rigidity/Weight ratio: 2011 Krypton vs. 2010 Krypton:
* Head tube: +9%
* Fork: +45%
* Chainstays: +36%

These improvements have been made possible thanks to 5650 HM, offering a better-performing machine with no sacrifice in comfort.

*Ratios derived by comparison of rigidity testing data for each Krypton frameset section mentioned above,proportionally factoring in each frameset’s respective weight.
